Self Improvement

Pulling myself in different directions

Or is it a good idea to work on a lot of different stuff

11 September 2025

This is not something that will have a clear and definitive answer at the end of it.

Anyone who read my previous blog post may have noticed that in my schedule I have tried to fit in a lot of stuff. I want to focus on my main project, but I also want to practice C++ and Python, become pretty adept at using clud based services and praxctice my piano among a whole host of other things I want to focus on. Is this necessarily viable though? I've found that initially it has been a struggle to stick to my time blocked schedule. I'm hoping it will get easier as I keep to it, and learning these programming languages and concepts has been a lot of fun and I feel like I've made a lot of progress, but meanwhile my main project has been something I've struggled to keep up with. Granted, I have had a lot of personal stuff to focus on, but this past week I decided I was just going to focuse solely on my main project and as a result I've made a lot of headway in developing it.

One thing I've heard a lot from people who talk about business development is that all your focus should be on it. They say that any free time you have should go towards working on it. This is something I picked straight up from The Millionaire Fastlane by MJ DeMarco. And as I have made progress on the development of my main project, I've wanted to work on it even more. I've come up with more ideas of what to create next and on how to do it and how to resolve issues that come up. I'm excited to get the first stage of it completed and out there, to show it off to the world. I feel like I'm incredibly close to releasing it, a project that I've been working on for over a year now.

But I want to be skilled at a lot of things. I want to be better at playing the piano, something I used to love to do. I want to be fluent when it comes to numerous programming concepts so that I have these skills at hand and to help me get employed. I've always enjoyed the idea of being a DaVinci Man, a person who is skilled at many different things.

It's still something I have to experiment and work on, try out different schedules and plans and figure out what works for me, and as certain things get completed and my situation changes, I'm going to get to change it more and try different things.

Like I said, there's no clear answer here. Just some fun thoughts I've been having.
