Getting video games completed
Or how else I'm making progress
I love video games. I have done ever since my family got a PlayStation back when I was a child. I grew to love them even moreso when my family got the greatest console ever made, the PlayStation 2. But actually completing a game is tricky. I've lost count of the amount of times I've started SKyrim and yet I've never done the quest to get the horn of Jurgen Windcaller.
Things have changed recently however, and I've been able to for the most part complete games. Just this last week I finished Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order (which I started three times) and Tomb Raider (the reboot game form 2013). Not long ago I finally finished Assassin's Creed Odyssey and Doom (2016). So what has changed?
Mainly, just that I am actually committing to finishing these games. I have the one game on my PC and the one game on my PS4 and I try not to let myself get distracted by other games. If a game is just too boring for me to complete then I guess I just don't finish it, or I find a point to take a break and come back to it later (something I did with Kingdom Come Deliverance). I even have a Notion page to track all of these:
As can be seen here, there's a main game for the PC (Bioshock), a main game for the PS3 (Shadow of Mordor), a main game for my Switch (No More Heroes) and a main game for my XBox 360 (Gears of War). There's also the long term, open world RPG (Kingdom Come Deliverance) and the long term strategy game (Rome Total War). Tropico 6 and Fifa 22 my more casual games for relaxing.
Then I have a specific schedule for my free time that allows me to focus on the specific game. For example, Monday evenings are for the strategy game while Thursday evenings are for my PS4 game.
Through these habits I've finally been able to actually complete games.
I can't wait to finally finish the main quest in Skyrim now, when I eventually get to it.
