A message about Halloween
Or something I really need to say
As I write this, it is the day before Halloween. This should be uploaded on the day of Halloween. I like Halloween. I don't go crazy about it, but I think it's a cool holiday. It was fun as a kid trying to come up with a scary costume and go around trick or treating, having fun with my friends. I've never really like horror as a genre (right now I'm struggling to get through Bioshock because of how scary I'm finding it) but overall I think Halloween is pretty cool.
A lot of other people think that too, however I've noticed a lot of people seem to gorget the theme this time of year.
Halloween is about being scary.
And some people just use it as an excuse to dress up as whatever they like.
There is a theme people! You don't have to be dressing up as something that is truly horrifying but the general idea is that you dress up as something that is scary. Skeletons, zombies, witches, etc. One year I dressed up as the Grim Reaper. Those are costumes that fit the theme of Halloween.
But scroll through social media and you'll see people dress up as superheroes or puns. Some people even treat is a 'cosplay' event.
It frustrates me.
I know, I know, it's silly of me to care about what other people do on this holiday, but I believe that our ability to care about the smallest of things is what makes us human. And if so many people don't respect the theme of Halloween, then what is even the point. There will be so many other occasions where you can dress up as your favourite fictional character or as some dumb pun. Just make your own day for it if you really want. But when it comes to Halloween, please just stick to the theme.
