2025: Year in Review

Or looking back on the previous year

2 January 2026

So, it's a new year. It's the start of 2026. These are the perfect moments to look back and reflect on the year just gone by. So how was 2025 for me? I wouldn't say amazing, but I wouldn't say terrible.

Let's start with the bad. Some of the year I have felt like I've stagnated a bit. I'm still working on getting employed, although I feel like I made some progress towards the end of the year (my CV has been massively updated, and I managed to finally get some final round of interviews) but not having that job has been frustrating. I feel a bit like I've stagnated in my career and it has affected my sense of self-worth (although I plan to go more detail into those feeling and my thoughts on a future post).

All that being said, there's been a lot to enjoy about the year. I went on my first ever stag-do, getting to visit Prague with my friends was a lot of fun and something that certainly helps me feel like an adult. To add to that feeling was getting to go the wedding, which was the first wedding I was a guest at where my parents weren't there. Proper adult me.

I got this blog created and deployed, a project I'm very proud of. I've not done too badly as well in sticking to regular posting.

The big project I got developed was finally deployed. I'll talk a bit about it here. It is a website called Act Reel. This is a social media website focused specifically on amateur theatre. I take part in a lot of amateur theatre. Acting has been a hobby of mine since I was a kid. The aim of this website is to facilitate the production of theatre shows. It's still very basic at the moment, users can create an account, create a theatre group and then create an event for that group, which can then be viewed by other users whether they have an account or not. I have a lot more plans for this project.

So my plans for the future year, aside from working on Act Reel of course, involves trying to move away from relying on computers and phones for a lot of things. Currently, when I write my reflections for the morning and evening I use a journal page on Notion. I'd like to start writing it down with pen and paper. Trying to get outdoors more often and not spend so much time on my computer, and cutting down on watching nonsense online, is a big aim for the coming year.

Overall, like I said it wasn't a terrible year all things considered, but there's definitely a lot of work to be done for the current year.
