My experience playing Halo so far
Or ahhhh, ah ah ah ah ah ah ahhhhhhh
I've been playing Kingdom Come: Deliverance for a while now. It's a great game and I'm enjoyign a lot of it, but it also stresses me out. I constantly worry about making the wrong decision to get the wrong outcome or getting caught when trying to commit a crime in the game. It's a bad habit that I really need to get out of. I need to just sit back and play the game, and not worry about the bad outcomes because sometimes that's where the best stories happen and it can add to further discussions with friends about the game. I will be back to finish KCD, but I've been at it for so long so I decided that I would finally move onto a different game that gave me less decision paralysis. Enter Halo.
I got gifted the Master Chief Collection for Christmas last year. I had an Xbox 360 back in the mid to late noughties so around the time when Halo 3 had just come out and also Halo Reach afterwards so I'd played them a fair bit, but mainly just the multiplayer. I never really played much of the story unless it was co-op with my brother. Then, when I was in university, a flatmate had a 360 and Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary which I enjoyed playing in the brief moments I got. And then, after that and just before the lockdowns picked up, I grabbed the first two Halo games for the original Xbox for my now over a decade old Xbox 360 which allowed for backwards compatibilty. I would play through the first one again in the odd moments I got, but I never really made it that far.
So I figured I would finally play it. I uninstalled Kingdom Come: Deliverance and set out to get the first game completed. I've been loving it so far. I'm spending much of my down time wanting to get back to it so I can make more progress. While a lot of the different rooms you encounter can feel repetitive, the different enemies can make for interesting challenges each time. Add the Flood into the game and suddenly you've got a completely different enemy that requires completely different tactics. My previous strategy of being able to hide behind cover while my shield regenerates just isn't an option now.
The story is genuinely engaging me. When I was a kid I wouldn't have paid much attention to it, but now I'm gradually getting drip fed bits of lore that make me want to get back to the game to learn more, and I also know most of the lore already.
Suffice to say that Halo, even if it is a remaster, holds up. I'm really enjoying playing through it and would highly recommend it. Although I'm hoping I can get The Library level done soon as I keep dying on this one bit.
Edit: Since writing this post, I have completed The Library.
